“Wanna come to the Mojave with me me and my fam?”
“What? Let me think- YES!”

With a departure date set for Christmas day, and an itinerary loosely based around maximum riding adventures, I headed down to Atascadero to meet my friend Wendy and her family to set out for some times. And some times we had!

Cresting the snow covered peaks around Tehachapi, the winter riding clothes- snowboarding gear- seemed like a necessity. As did making a few phone calls to various moto-shops in the California region. My bike has had a badly dented expansion chamber (exhaust pipe) since the day I bought it. The time had come to buy a new one, free of holes, cracks, dents and rust. Somehow, a small shop in a small town, Ridgecrest Sportscenter, happened to have the exact part in stock. And it bolted right up! This beam of good luck continued to shine bright throughout the rest of our trip.

The campsite was a group of ultra-luxury wheeled-boxes. Ours even had a heater! With a roaring campfire, the site made for an ideal spot to stake out for a week or so. And the Miller family did exactly that!

"What am I looking at? Oh!"

A quick edit of the trip. 30MB, 2 minutes or so, in MPEG4 format.
Works great with iTunes, Quicktime, or an iPod!

Trails varied from tight and steep, rocky and flowy, to wide-open and fast, with waist-deep whoops and speeds meant only for freeways. It turns out my bike, a YZ125, probably has a WR250 transmission inside the motor. Which is fine by me!
This trip was a family occasion, with 6 entire families in attendance. I was quite surprised at the amount of females who rode at such a high level. Not being a very experienced motorcycle rider, this was a much higher ratio of females to males than most mountain bike events or rides will ever show. That’s pretty rad!

Despite our perfect weather, pristine conditions, and endless trails, we had to return to the grindstone of the “real life.” Charlie’s Place, we’ll be back!
